Foldable herb shelf
Looks good and tastes great: garden herbs right at the kitchen window. Thanks to the hinges, you swing the shelf to the side to easily open the window. Add a finishing touch to the shelf by decorating it with Osmo Dekorwachs in light colours – now the shelf looks light and airy.
Tools:
- Saw
- Drilling machine
- Wood drill bit 4.5 mm
- Sanding block and sandpaper
- Clamp
- Osmo Flat Brush
- Osmo Hand Pad Holder with Oil Finish Applicator Fleece
- Paint tray
- Drill bit for walls
Materials:
- 1 Osmo edge-glued panel, 18 × 410 × 800 mm
- 4 French chest hinges, 35 × 200 mm
- 20 wood screws, 4 × 45 mm
- 12 wood screws, 3.5 × 15 mm
- 16 wall anchors and screws
- Osmo Dekorwachs, e.g. in White and Granite Grey
With the materials, make the following:
- 2 bottoms, 18 × 410 × 180 mm
- 4 sides, 18 × 110 × 180 mm
- 4 crossbars, 18 × 20 × 410 mm
HOW IT'S DONE:
Cut out the sides and bottoms. Drill two screw holes on each side in the centre of the thickness of the shelf bottom. Sand all wood parts and round all corners.
Stir Osmo Dekorwachs in the colours for the bottoms and sides well and pour into a tray.
With Osmo Hand Pad Holder and Oil Finish Applicator Fleece, an especially even and thin coat is possible: dip, wipe off excess and wipe over the surface. The result is a transparent colour – the wood grain can still be seen.
Use Osmo Flat Brush to coat the crossbars in a contrasting colour. Allow all surfaces to dry for approx. 12 hours. Ventilate well while drying.
Clamp the sides and bottom together and fix with wood screws (4 x 45 mm).
Clamp the crossbars between the sides at about 50 mm over the bottom.
Drill the crossbars and fix with wood screws (4 × 45 mm).
Attach the chest hinges to the sides, at the top with 15 mm wood screws and at the bottom with 45 mm. The longer screws penetrate the shelf bottom and give extra support. Then mount the shelf onto the wall with wall anchors and screws.
