"Ship ahoy" in the children's room
With our building instructions, your child becomes the captain of his own room.
With our building instructions, your child becomes the captain of his own room. Out of a loft bed, a sailboat is created in 18 steps. The sailboat is just built around an existing loft bed; assembly kits are available in stores. Behind the bow, a practical desk is hidden: an Osmo edge-glued wood panel, for example, in Pine is held by do-it-yourself bracket supports. In addition, a lighthouse serves as a coat rack and shelf. The sea atmosphere is rounded off by blue carpets.
When finishing the children's furniture, use Osmo Dekorwachs and TopOil. Both wood coatings are suitable for children's toys and furniture. In our example, we used Dekorwachs 3125 Blue and TopOil 3028 Clear Satin for the sailboat. The lighthouse was finished with Dekorwachs 3186 White Matt, 3104 Red and 3169 Black. Customize the furniture according to your children's wishes by use other colours or mixing your own colour shades.

BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS SAILBOAT LOFT BED
Assembly the loft bed you bought. To draw the curve of the ship’s bow, put the wood profiles together and fix them with a clamp. Creating the right curve: fix a batten to the wood profiles to help keep a folding ruler in place and draw the curve onto the wood profiles. (See drawings for the top length)
Take the profiles apart and cut the curve for the ship’s bow.
In addition, cut off the tongue of the top profile. After cutting the ship's bow curve, put the wood profiles together again, sand the cut sides and break the edges in the process. Tip: To keep the profiles in the right order, number them on the back.
Cut the circles out of the plywood for the portholes (Ø 500 mm) and cut out the inner circle (Ø 400 mm). Drill a hole on the inner circle for the jigsaw attachment and cut the rings.
Coat the single profiles. Do not forget the tongues. Important: The coating should be saliva and perspiration-resistant and suitable for children’s toys. Optimally suited is our Dekorwachs in the colour of choice (here in 3125 Blue).
The hull planking is held together and stabilized by four battens (length 700 mm). Measure and plan the battens and portholes in front of the bed on the floor.
Staple the bottom profile in the tongue at a right angle to the battens and also staple the profiles at the bottom edge.
Gently push all blue profiles for the ship’s bow into the tongue and groove connections and staple together in the tongues.
Lay the portholes onto the blue planking and draw the inner circle onto it. Important: Pay attention to where the battens are and place the portholes between the battens.
Cut out the opening with the jigsaw. Tip: The narrower the jigsaw blade, the better the curves will be sawn.
To mount the hull planking, fix a batten cut to the right length onto the ladder of the loft bed with screws.
Fix each profile at least one time to the batten attached to the ladder and another time to the bedpost on the other side of the bed.
Treat the portholes with a clear Osmo TopOil. Staple them onto the front.
The pan head screws are solely decoration and are glued in with all-purpose glue. To fix them, drill eight hole in regular distances through porthole frames.
Glue the pan head screws into place as an optical fixing.
For the crafts table or desk brackets, screw two 500 mm long battens together at right angles. Make an angle cut of 45° at the ends of the connecting strut and fix it with screws. Oil the triangular brackets and the desk table top. Then attach the brackets to the bedposts at the same height. Place the desk table top on the brackets and fix it to the brackets from below with screws.
Sew the sails: fold over the cotton fabric at the edges and sew around the edges. Sew corner reinforcements with cotton scraps to the corners using a decorative zigzag stitch and red thread.
Hang up the sails from the ceiling with hooks and rope. Dimensions vary depending on the room height.
